Challenged Athletes Foundation
Join me in supporting Operation Rebound!

When answering the often asked question of why I particpate in triathlons, my standard responses are: "Because I like to challenge myself," OR "Because I can." However, the longer I participate, the more I become aware that my "challenges" are minimal when compared to many others who share my love for the sport. This May 20th, I will be competing in the Ironman Florida 70.3 race in Orlando. For those that don't know, that is a 1.25 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride, followed by a 13.1 mile run (yes, all in the same race, all in the same day). I have decided to add a new dimension and meaning to my race by raising funds for Operation Rebound, a special program of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).

CAF raises money so people with physical challenges can participate and compete in the sports they love. By providing opportunities and resources needed for active lifestyles, CAF enhances these individuals' self-esteem, independence and quality of life.

In 2004, CAF recognized a critical need among the brave members of our armed forces returning from Afghanistan and Iraq who had suffered permanent disabilities – such as an amputation -- in combat. That need was for mentoring and community with athletes who had prevailed over similar circumstances and shared similar experiences. It became part of CAF’s mission to help show injured soldiers that they could be “whole” again through participation in sports – at any level.

Operation Rebound seeks to create a valuable resource that these soldiers and veterans can use after they return home – or to their home base. Operation Rebound helps them meet their athletic goals, whether it’s finishing their local 5K – or trying to make it to the Paralympics.

By making a donation towards our fundraising goal you will directly help an injured soldier in need.

Thank you for your donation! It will help truly challenged athletes say "Because I can."
